01. Intro
San Francisco Health Plan wanted to redesign its main website. I was the only web designer on the team at the time, so I was heavily involved in building the new site. San Francisco Health Plan wanted to redesign its website because the original site had a few issues. 1. Our site was not mobile-friendly at all. 2. The navigation for our site and the organization of the site was confusing for our users.
02. Research
We first started out by doing research, pulling together all the information we knew about our users which were in two different groups, providers and members. We had employees that have been with the company a long time and we started by doing card sorting. We also ran focus groups and usability testing to see how what our users were looking for in a new site. Lastly, I was in charge of the google analytics at the time and I was able to pull insights from that as well. Such as looking heat maps and bounce rates on certain pages.
03. Design Proposal
After we had done research and did a focus group we began designing the website. Some of the design requirements were to use the same color palette and have a lot of information above the fold. Also we have to keep the header of the original website. I soon asked to do my own version of how the I thought the website should look and function based on the research as well. I immediately turned to not just the research and brainstorming we have done but to the current analytics of our website, which I was in charge of the google analytics for the company. One of the trends for website was a considerable high bounce rate. We all at first thought that was a bad thing but I soon realize that could be used as a strength in certain circumstances on our site. Bounce Rate measures the rate people come to your site and how fast they leave. My idea was to create a design that encourages users to get the information they need as quickly as possible.
